On 3 February 2003, the Department of Education and the Department of Training were merged to form the Department of Education and Training.
The Department of Education and Training operated through four main areas: Primary education (Kindergarten to Year 7); Secondary education (Year 8 to Year 12); Vocational education and training services; and Employment programs.
The Department provided school educational services to more than 250,000 students in Western Australia, enrolled in approximately 770 government schools.
On 30 October 2009, the Department of Education and Training was separated into two departments: the Department of Education, and the Department of Training and Workforce Development.
