The Main Roads Department, in co-operation with Local Government, develops and manages the State road network as part of a total transportation system.
The Department of Transport (established on 1 July 2009), Main Roads Western Australia, and the Public Transport Authority comprise the State's current Transport Portfolio. The Office of Road Safety was transferred from the Department of Premier and Cabinet on 1 July 2009.

The files document road construction, contracts, investigations, traffic surveys, traffic policy, maintenance, land resumption and acquisition, conferences and committees, vehicle loads, administrative policy and financial policy.
