Scope and content

Letterbook of Mr Walkinshaw Cowan in his capacity as Protector (or Guardian) of Aborigines, for York. NOTE: At the time of microfilming the volume is in very poor condition owing to water damage over a long period. It has been microfilmed to capture the remaining information. It appears to consist mainly of copies of letters from Cowan to the Colonial Secretary. The original letters may be seen, on microfilm, with the Colonial Secretary's inward correspondence at Acc 36. Check AN 24 for volume number for Aborigines for years between 1850-1857.
