Administrative history

The Department of Agriculture decided to investigate the viability of establishing a State Implement Works in 1912 - 1913 to manufacture agricultural machinery. The State Implement and Engineering Works commenced operating on 1 July 1913 following amalgamation with the Fremantle Workshops (administered by Public Works Department).

The Works largely manufactured agricultural implements until about 1930 when it changed to general engineering works. The title of the Works appears to have changed to State Engineering Works about 1942.
